Windows XP Outlook

Whenever I try to access, systems responds "NOT
RUNNING". Must log out and log in. Then I get the
message that Outlook was not shut down properly. Can you
shed any light on this problem? Do I need a later
version, buy another product, feed the gremlins in my
computer better, all of the above, none of above, or
whatever? Your reply shall be greatly appreciated.
