.... and the quality of the VCD is most likely
going to be significantly lower than your original source material. So it's not a good strategy, even if the file format was supported in MM. -- -Bob _______________________________ Microsoft MVP Windows XP Media Center Edition http://www.microsoft.com/ehome "Graham Hughes" <graham@simplydv.co.uk> wrote in message news:OVZWQE8CFHA.4020@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > No. vcd is mpeg1, mm uses avi files. > > -- > Graham Hughes > MVP Digital Media > Laird of Glencairn > www.dvds2treasure.com > www.simplydv.com > > > "Wladimir" <wladmire101@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:5C6FDA23-C088-442F-B48B-0EE2CCC80208@microsoft.com... >> Hello >> I have a bunch of video tapes that i am trying to put on VCD, once i burn >> them onto a VCD, would i be able to edit them in Movie Maker? Instead of VCD, If i burned the videos on a DVD, will i still be able to edit
them in MM? and also, i don't have a DVD burner, can i still edit w/o a DVD burner? VCD or DVD are both formats designed for the viewing. They discard a lot of
information from the source format of video and compress the rest. If you ever need to edit a video its best to edit in the exact/closest format these are captured so as to maintain quality during editing. For video captured with digital camcorders, the best format for capture is DV AVI. Movie Maker supports this format for editing. 1. capture in dv avi 2. edit in movie maker 3. save in dv avi 4. use your dvd software to burn dvd movie from the edited dv avi. -- Rehan www.rehanfx.org - get transitions and effects for Windows Movie Maker "Wladimir" <wladmire101@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:5C34DF26-B4E7-4352-A884-C9FB5E53399F@microsoft.com... > Instead of VCD, If i burned the videos on a DVD, will i still be able to > edit > them in MM? > and also, i don't have a DVD burner, can i still edit w/o a DVD burner? > > "Graham Hughes" wrote: > >> No. vcd is mpeg1, mm uses avi files. >> >> -- >> Graham Hughes >> MVP Digital Media >> Laird of Glencairn >> www.dvds2treasure.com >> www.simplydv.com >> >> >> "Wladimir" <wladmire101@hotmail.com> wrote in message >> news:5C6FDA23-C088-442F-B48B-0EE2CCC80208@microsoft.com... >> > Hello >> > I have a bunch of video tapes that i am trying to put on VCD, once i >> > burn >> > them onto a VCD, would i be able to edit them in Movie Maker? If you don't have a dvd burner, how are you going to burn them to dvd?
You could, once you've bought a burner, save the dv-avi files to dvd as a data disc and use these in MM, but this disc would not play in a dvd player. -- Graham Hughes MVP Digital Media Laird of Glencairn www.dvds2treasure.com www.simplydv.com "Wladimir" <wladmire101@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:5C34DF26-B4E7-4352-A884-C9FB5E53399F@microsoft.com... > Instead of VCD, If i burned the videos on a DVD, will i still be able to edit > them in MM? > and also, i don't have a DVD burner, can i still edit w/o a DVD burner? > > "Graham Hughes" wrote: > > > No. vcd is mpeg1, mm uses avi files. > > > > -- > > Graham Hughes > > MVP Digital Media > > Laird of Glencairn > > www.dvds2treasure.com > > www.simplydv.com > > > > > > "Wladimir" <wladmire101@hotmail.com> wrote in message > > news:5C6FDA23-C088-442F-B48B-0EE2CCC80208@microsoft.com... > > > Hello > > > I have a bunch of video tapes that i am trying to put on VCD, once i burn > > > them onto a VCD, would i be able to edit them in Movie Maker?
