I am trying to import avi files and some of them are importing fine, no
problem at all, others are not working. It told me to select the option to download codecs automatically and I did but I still get this error message and have no idea what to do: The file C:\Documents and Settings....\Bone to be Wild.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. Thanks for any bit of help anyone can offer, Theresa |

Hello,
The AVI format is simply a container for a range of other formats. It is possible that the required codec is not available from Microsoft. You should first off go to the Microsoft site and download the very latest DirectX 9.0c I think, and Media Player 9 Codec pack and install them both...even if you believe that you already have a good installation. If this does not work then there is a possibility that the avi file is in fact a DivX (spit) file. That would mean tracking down the latest codec from the DivX website and installing that. HOWEVER doing that might cause Movie Maker problems. You could take a look at my website and click on GREAT LINKS > KNOWLEDGE BASE > VIDEO HELP and look for an appropriate converter....its a great site, possibly the best there is. You enter your requirements and it gives you all the info and links to programs that will fit your needs. -- Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org www.the-kellys.co.uk Check out free video hosting at www.the-kellys.org ---- \|||/ (oo) ----------ooO-(_)-Ooo------------- All material gained from other sources is duly acknowledged.
