hello people, i was hoping somebody could help. Capture of dv from my sony HANDYCAM dcr-Hc18E PAL (via my i-link cable and PCI 1394 FIREWIRE card) to Microsoft movie maker 2.1 produces an 'UNKNOWN ERROR'or a "CLASS NOT REGISTERED 0X800040154" from windows media encoder 9 series. i tried other software packages that haven’t worked too. All drivers are update and installed - indeed the 1394 board drivers are picked up by Windows xp home that I’m using. The video camera icon appears in system tray (signed as sony) and all seems okay till i actually try to capture. i've reinstalled drivers and software, turned on and off the pc, changed the slot for the card several times. i've taken the pc back to shop where i bought the card and they confirmed that the card and cable works fine. The handycam works fine too. i have since installed a program recommended by Microsoft called gspot221.exe which searches for installed codecs. the only problems found where: - - ** Problem ** ** Codec not registered DSH 4CC DVSD DSH Friendly Name DV Video Decoder DSH DirectShow CLSID CLSID_DVVideoCodec {B1B77C00-C3E4-11CF-AF79-00AA00B67A42} REG Additional Media Type 01 MEDIASUBTYPE_dvsd REG Additional Media Type 02 4cc: dvc - - ** Problem ** ** Codec not registered DSH Friendly Name DV Video Encoder DSH DirectShow CLSID CLSID_DVVideoEnc {13AA3650-BB6F-11D0-AFB9-00AA00B67A42} - - ** Problem ** ** Codec not registered DSH Friendly Name NVIDIA Video Decoder DSH DirectShow CLSID {71E4616A-DB5E-452B-8CA5-71D9CC7805E9} after that installed 3ivx_d4_451_win.exe (3ivx codecs), nimo50build8.exe (nimo codecs), the NVIDIA_NVDVD_2.55_patch.exe (lastest Nvidia codecs) and the Dix 5.1 codecs. still no joy. i have also registered all my previously unregistered .ax files. i have also have the latest version of windows media player 10, dirextx9 and all the latest home xp updates included sp2. i cant reinstall home xp because it was preinstalled. can somebody please help. i would appreciate it a lot - the video I’m trying to capture is from our wedding and honeymoon. thanks, BEN |

I had the same error,
This worked for me. I got it off another forum: "Rehan - Lets rule out that it is not because of DLL mis-registration. Execute the following line in Start -> Run dialog regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll - This should result in success message. Now try importing the file again. > Rupert - I don't know what that Start|Run command did but it worked straight after that. I'm delighted - thanks very much. What does that command do? > Rehan - The command was to re-register the proper DLL for handling DV AVI files. Some other applications register their own version of the DLL to handle this functionality. However this makes everything else to start using their DLL breaking their functionality. The above command gives the control back to the official DLL. " bob "desertcolours" wrote: > > > hello people, > > > > > > i was hoping somebody could help.
