Hello,

If you ever find any, I would be interested in that kind of stuff as well.

Just thought someone might be hosting an amateur enthusiasts site somewhere
with that sort of content...small sized transitional clips and effects.
Most of the commercial stuff is not really what I want...too, ah..
commercial.<g>

Hello again,

Just caught me before I get oyked up stairs I have some video (not
that good a quality) of a reconstruction of a battle between the Royalists
and Parliamentarians at Powderham Castle, Devon. There are some side on
shots from black powder long guns and some small arms fire and some less
useful (because of distance) military pieces...some ships canon and other
smaller canons.

You can see a sample of it on my website under Media > Video > War. I
am editing that copy again to improve on it. The original was filmed around
13 years ago over an already well used tape and since then the tape has been
"lost" for want of another description. I found it last week as we were
throwing out loads of old VHS stuff and as it was a particularly good day I
thought I would resurrect it.

The reason we were working through the old tapes was because of an
announcement on UK TV that Dixon's (largest UK distributor of all types of
electrical merchandise) has withdrawn from sale ALL Video Tape Decks !!!!
This because of lowering sales and they cost to much in terms of shelf
space. We have also noticed that the two largest Supermarket chains have
also dropped VHS Tape decks as well...so it has come time to rescue what we
want and throw out the rest.

You are welcome to the original un-edited AVI (32.8GB) or I can run a 2
pass MPeg encoder over it and reduce to MPeg...it should fit without further
compression onto a DVD. If you would like it, you are most welcome

Thanks John, I will look at the sample and see if anything fills my needs --
better left in avi or, at the very minimum, perhaps I-Frame only. Not as
concerned about motion artifacts as much as color quality and assuredly the
clips will ultimately be re-muxed under a variety of bitrates anyway.

Perhaps this 4th of July, I might catch some serious artillery samples
during someone's rendition of the 1812 Overture.

Cheers,

Hello again,

Yes, over hear there are many events where you could get those sort of
shots...there are "specials" at Warwick Castle the home of the King Maker, you
have to get in early though and there is a lot of walking to do. But, you can
get sword fights, canon demonstrations (some times) Falconry, Archery and
Jousting. I took part in one of those once in Devon.....I was only playing the
part of a Squire and still came out a bit bruised

There is also the Military Tattoo at Edingbugh Castle, Scotland which I have
never managed to get to (But I am editing some video of the Castle right now)
The TV presentation is quite spectacular in parts and I imagine would be
exactly what you want.

The 1812 is sometimes used at Alton Towers on the displays around 5th
November.....they use mortars to launch quite a few of the fire works (I
employed the company for a charity do I once organized so I got to see some of
the equipment, Dragon Fire...french company) On one of the events and whilst
using my first video camera, a Panasonic SVHS, I got fairly close to where the
fireworks were being launched from....the resulting video was terrible. Every
time a mortar was fired the explosion caused the tape to vibrate against the
head and the result was quite unusable. I had the same problem when in the pits
for the 1st Formula One street race in Birmingham England. The camera/setup was
completely unsuitable

I have yet to find and edit some analog and digital tapes of the Seven Valley
Railway. I have some out the window close ups of just the Engine and Tender
with whistle etc etc as we went through the valley alongside the Seven River.
The cut down versions will appear on my web site....eventually

Should you ever see something you like on my site, let me know.
