Default Problems with capturing a DV source.

Hi all,
Please be gentle as I am new to this. I am hoping that someone will be able
to help with a couple of rather infuriating problems.
Firstly, I am trying to capture video from a JVC DV camcorder, all
connections are sound and I have full control and preview abilities. The
problem comes when I try to capture the footage. I press the record button
and the camcorder starts to play and the 'Record' caption starts to flash.
However, on a tape that has been recorded in long play (90 mins) I am
actually receiving only 20 mins of footage.
Secondly, if there is a problem with anything in Movie Maker a reboot is
necessary for me to proceed.
Please help

Check the info on the Digital Camcorders > JVC page of my site.... and the
other Problem Solving pages if needed.
