Default DCR-DVD201E-Query from a novice

Hi All,
I 've purchased this new sony dig-videocam,DCR-201E the provided software
with it is image mixer by Pixela which is a lot of confusing.I would love to
use some other software like adobe premier or even moviemaker 2 that i have
..But i just can't transfer or edit the format from my cam in those softwares
as the format is not recognised .Also i wonder How these movie people make
such greate movies in very small file size.(Storage space required).Could
enlighten me please?

Unfortunately Movie Maker does not work properly with DVD/MPEG2 movies; it
can not write to this format at all and has great difficulty reading from
it. So you should be looking for some other editor which can work directly
with this format. I have heard good words about VideoReDo.

Furthermore DVDs are an odd format to edit in any package... This is
designed for viewing not editing. So you will find that most programs that
can edit this format have very basic functionality: cutting and joining
only.

To work in Movie Maker you need to convert it to an uncompressed or slightly
less compressed avi format. This conversion can potentially result in losing
some quality if not done properly...
