Hello there,
I think we are going to need a bit more info before we can help you. Have you tried disabeling the integrated camera? Have you confirmed in the device manager that your fire wire port is functioning and that there are no conflicts. Is the firewire port integrated into the motherboard or is it a seperate card? Does XP Ping when you plug the camera in? Is the camera set to VCR mode? Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org www.the-kellys.co.uk "williamganus" <williamganus@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F09DA361-778E-4470-9C7C-21BC7D202380@microsoft.com... > i'm trying to copy my digital video from a samsung onto my new vaio using a > FireWire and my os isn't detecting the camera at all. i'm trying to capture > into movie maker, but the only device it will allow me to use is my > integrated camera. help? |

William --
I agree with John that more info is necessary. In the meantime, here's my experience. I had the identical problem with my BRAND NEW, just out of the box Medion MD 1918 -- plugging a known functioning DV camera into the front panel firewire port produced NO response from the OS. After 5 evenings of no solutions, I finally started thinking "out of the box" and asked myself the most fundamental help-desk question: "Is it plugged in?" I opened the case for the first time and immediately saw the front panel firewire ports' cable was disconnected from the motherboard. I plugged the firewire cable into the connector, and now everything functions as it should. I hope this helps in some way.
