My Sony 8 mm Handycam is plugged into an ATI capture
device that came with my Dell Dimension 8300 w/ Windows XP Media Center Edition. On the camera end is a single pin. At the other end are two GE jacks. With the camera on play, I click capture from video device. I see the video capture wizard: ATI Rage Theater Video Capture. Under video input source I select composite. Under audio device I select ATI Rage Theater Audio. When I start the camera on play the audio level meter starts jumping. I click next and see the window for naming the captured file and its destination. I click next and get the page for video settings. I leave it on best quality. I click next and get the error message, "The device is not responding. Close any other application that is using the device and try capturing again." There is no other application running. I checked the startup file and it is empty. When I choose SoundMax Digital Audio, the audio level meter stops moving, but I am allowed to pass video settings and view the video on the program monitor, still no sound. The Dell technicians were unable to help me. i emailed ATI and haven't gotten a response. The reason I bought the computer was to transfer old videos to DVD. I can't do that if I can't record them first onto my hard drive. |

Hi Stan,
Historically, analog capture in Movie Maker has not been supported from the PVR device in Media Center PCs. However, depending on the driver manufacturer and the type of card, you may have some success if you bring up the Task Manager and end the Media Center Process ehrecvr.exe.(Don't worry, it will start when you re-boot). Let me know if this works for you.
