problems editing movie material

I am using a nvida capture card to capture normal video from my camera to my computer, it allows a lot of options as to what format I can use, what is the best format to use with MM2
When I try to edit and play back clips from the timeline at the end of a clip the piture freezes in the display even though the audio continues and the timeline continues to move.
Any help appreciated.

Is this a camera or camcorder? How exactly is it connected to the pc, what
cables?
