timeline pausing during playback

Ok - the video clips all look fine when played from the
collection, but inserted into the timeline and played,
they pause, the audio skips and sometimes it just stops
altogether...
any help????

What are the file types. MM doesn't really like mp3's and mpeg's.

Preview is not meant for judging the quality of final movie, it is designed
to use reduced quality to allow quicker editing. First export your movie (to
DV AVI) to evaluate the quality.
