Default importing clips into movie maker

when I attempt to import additional clips into a movie
projects it deletes the ones that are there. do I always
have to move them to the time line before making
additional clip imports?

It's not deleting them. It's just importing
the new ones into their own collections folders.

From the View menu, select Collections. You'll
see that they are all still there -- somewhere.
