I just finished making a movie using Windows Moviemaker
2. I used photos that I scanned in to make it. I have saved it to my hardrive and it plays fine in the media player. The problem is that I can not seem to figure out how to save it to a dvd. I have a dvd-r drive but it won't recognize the wmv. file. Is there someway of coverting it so I can save it to a dvd? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi there,
It would seem that your DVD software does not support the WMV format. That's no big deal. Save your movie again using the DV-AVI format. The resulting file should import into your DVD software with no problems at all. Your alternative is to use some third party product to converts the WMV file into an MPEG file. Its not a terribly good thing to do...such a program would have to internally convert it to a bitmap and then convert that back to an PEG. So any loss of quality that might occur in the WMV format will be treated as good quality during the conversion....result...not too good. You would be much better off going with the DV-AVI option. Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org www.the-kellys.co.uk "Steve" <RRWJD2003@aol.com> wrote in message news:3b9201c42a07$74fb2410$a101280a@phx.gbl... > I just finished making a movie using Windows Moviemaker > 2. I have tried your suggestion but the movie maker is
telling me that I can not save it as a dv-avi file. It is telling me to check that the files are still available and that the location is available. I try just saving it as a normal wmv file again and all works fine. Is there something wrong with the file or just my software? >Hi there, > > It would seem that your DVD software does not support the WMV format. >That's no big deal. Hi there,
OK, I have yet to write this one up for my FAQ. It sounds to me that you might have a duff QASF.DLL If memory serves the current one is Version 9.0.0.2980. Having just checked I have two copies of it on my system One is the version mentioned above and the other is version 5.something. This DLL is used by the DirectX rendering system (That does not just mean rendering to the screen you understand) Movie Maker will make full use of this DLL at various stages. Again if memory serves it is used in the creation of DV-AVI. Now if you have the Version 5 being used by MovieMaker to create a file in the DirectX version 9 fornmat, you are obviously going to have problems. Finding it.....Click on Start > Search > All Files and enter QASF.DLL and let it rip. To discover what the version number is right click the found file(s) and select Version. THE ONLY version you are interested in will be the one displayed at the top of the Version panel. I say this because it is often the case when looking at these details users click on the Product Version in the bottom of the pane. In the case of QASF.DLL they should both read the same, but it is often not the case. On finding your QASF.DLL file and assuming it is not the versio 9 I mentioned above you need to do one of three things....the third is copy any version 9 stored elsewhere over the top of any lesser version. For a full description of the other two options check out the FAQ > MM > Codec > Crash and go to the paragraph title "Download and install the basic system files for correct operation" Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org www.the-kellys.co.uk <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3a0701c42a0e$4e753770$a601280a@phx.gbl... > I have tried your suggestion but the movie maker is > telling me that I can not save it as a dv-avi file. Hi,
Maybe you can try WinAVI Video Converter http://www.winavi.com/video-converter.htm. And it is a complete solution for video file converting and burning! Good luck!
