Default Darker when saved

Hi. When i have finished my movie and saved it to my computer (even in
the best quality), the finished movie gets darker than what i get in
the preview in moviemaker. I know i can add brightness several times
as an effect, but can anyone tell me why it gets darker in the firs
place, and if there is anything i can do to prevent it?

Hi there,

My first thought would be that the codec used to actually create the file is
in some way malfunctioning.

If the saved format is DV-AVI or WMV then I suggest you download the full
versions of DirectX 9.0b and Windows Media Player Version 9. Reboot your
machine and install DirectX, reboot again and install WMP. Do a final reboot
and try the save again.

If the saved format was DV-AVI and because the AVI format is only a
container for the actual format used there is another possibility. Without
going into a great longwinded explanation, a codec might be causing you a
problem. The problem codec will be from some other software DVD player or
other Editing program. I have created a program that will rename the so far
"known" problem codecs so that you can use Movie Maker. Afterwards you run
my program again to restore those codecs. The program is called "Rename
Codecs" To be honest I am not convinced that it will help, but you loose
nothing by trying. If it does work you will realise that by using the
options within the program you will be able to identify the actual codec
that is causing your problem and then take the appropriate action.

I had a similar problem where everything had a red tint. I could get rid of
it but that took many hours of processing. The solution for me was the first
option above. Something must have got screwed up on the initial install, why
the problem was intermittent was something I never got to the bottom of.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
