Can't seperate the tracks

I am trying to narrate while the music is playing. I can only get the narration & music ON THE SAME TRACK so first I hear my narration & then the music. I WANT THEM BOTH TOGETHER can you help?

If MM2 is your tool, you'll have to make your movie in two passes. Use the
first pass to add either the narration or music, and the second pass for the
other.

Another approach is mix the two audio files in a sound software package and
bring in the mixed file.

What do you mean by two passes?
