Check out PapaJohn's website (http://www.papajohn.org). Look under the
Problem Solving... Acceleration and Codecs section. There is also a section on "Can't Save a Movie" Regards Dean Rowe This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi there,
Your problem is not an unusual. It is almost always caused by an out of date codec. A codec is a small program that is accessed by Movie Maker during the rendering process. Perhaps the two most common codec that cause this problem come with the DVD software; Cyberlinks Power DVD and Intervideo WinDVD. The two DVD programs mentioned are those that come as a free program with DVD players or writers. There are a number of ways you can solve this problem if you have either of the above programs on your system (or have had on your system in the past) 1) Use WindowsXP to remove the programs (see your control panel) 2) Rename the codecs and change them back afterwards. This is messy and if you make a mistake you can cause all sorts of problems. 3) Install the latest version of the software (This is what I did) 4) Install the Codec updates (a lot cheaper then buying the full upgrade) Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org |

Hello again,
In order that you can determine with ease whether or not your problem is to do with "Codecs" I have created a small program that will enable you to rename codecs with just a couple of button clicks. You will find the link from the Video page on my website at www.the-kellys.org. Please read the warnings before you use it. I have tried the program upon my own system and it worked perfectly....it makes just one assumption. Your codecs are stored on Drive C. This will be the case unless you took special actions to cause Windows System files to be stored elsewhere. If you do decide to try it out. Please let me know what you think. If you know that your system has a certain codec that does not appear in the list, please let me know the name of it and I will issue a new program. Best Wishes.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org |
