Default Is WMM2 really compatible MP3?

Hi all
I had many problems to try to start working with WMM2. I found efficient help by
reading the forum. However, it remains a trouble that I cannot eliminate.

When I insert a MP3 file on the audio track, I have an immediate crash. I can't
copy the contents of the "crash window" as that computer is not on line with
internet. If necessary, i'll try to copy it.

The problem happens, as if th project is still empty: only one MP3 crashes, at
each attempt to insert. If the project has already a video file, it's the same.

Note that a possibility to overcome this, is to use WAV file, but I feel this
"unsmart". The possible extensions which should be accepted, mention MP3.

Did anybody meet this problem, and is there any smart solution?

The computer is HP zd7045ea runing XP home

Thanks for any help
