Default dvd to computer

Is it possible to copy a disk from a DVD player to a
computer via movie maker? What capture device do I need?

You'll need to 'rip' the disk..... and it'll need third party software, not
MovieMaker.

See the info at www.dvdrhelp.com

If all else fails, use DVD.X.COPY to make a copy of the
movie to a blank DVD(this software will 'rip' the movie).
Then simply save the copied DVD to your computer. You can
buy the program at any electronics store, or go to
DVDXCOPY.com and download it.
