Default Changing Audio Balance As Movie Progresses

When I am creating a movie and watch it before I save it -
- I can make ongoing adjustments to the sound balance
between the audio track and the video track. But I can't
figure out how to get the system to "remember" the sound
level adjustments for actually creating the movie. Is
this possible?

It automatically remembers your settings.... as long as you save your
project file after making any changes.

I can get it to save a single setting that runs
throughout the entire movie by saving my project file.
But I would like to vary the balance between video and
audio (music fades into background for certain
dialogue). Is this possible? I can't figure it out.
