Default Highly Pixelated Previews of Clips in Timeline

Hi,
I have video clips in a collection that when selected
display nicely in the Preview Monitor. When I add one of
these clips to the Timeline (or Storyboard) the preview is
highly pixilated to the point it's useless. It looks like
a thumbnail that has been scaled up to the preview sizes
without being re-rendered.
The clips are 10 fps 768x 586 screen captures from Windows
Media Encoder. If I save out a movie with this set-up, it
works fine. I need to be able to add narration by
following what's happening in the preview window. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
Dan
