Default bad recorded video quality

I have just recorded a video from a dv camera into a hard
drive using windows media player. During the recording
the picture was fine, however, when I replayed the
recorded file the picture is very distorted. (The
recording on the tape is fine) What could be wrong?

I would appreciate some advice!

The system could be dropping frames.

Record a clip of known length from your camcorder. Then check the length of
the recorded clip in moviemaker. Are they EXACTLY the same? If not, some
frames are missing.

What kind of hardware are you using?
