Windows Movie Maker 1 takes a very long time to start the
first time its run, Once the application has been started and closed its fine the next time you start it. This only happens with ONE user profile, all other users it starts fast first time / every time. I have defragged which made a small diference only, I have deleted all the projects from within MM1 and I have scanned it for virii and spyware. (some minor infections, but no change) I dont want to upgrade to MM2, as I cant get the snapshot function to work as it does in MM1. Mat |

Hi there,
This issue has nothing to do with having any known virus or fragmented hard drive. Perhaps the simplest way of solving this issue is to log in as an administrator and then delete the affected account. Then reboot the computer and recreate the account. All should be well...let us know if it is not. -- Best Regards.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org ---- God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. |

Hi Again,
I should have also said the following. The reason it is slow loading is going to be related to some other program that has been loaded by that account and before MM. The usual culprit is a Service or two. Loading them in the wrong order can cause this type of problem...the kind of thing that happens is that a service will activate, it will see how much RAM or System Resources are available and it will aquire as much as it can up to a certain point...this means that the next program that works this way will have less RAM or Resources to play with etc etc...so then you load MM and there is low RAM or more importantly the System Resources are low. These issues can be fixed by carefully re-arranging the order that services/GUI/devices/RAM is allocated, but its not worth the effort....and recreating the account will almost always correct the problem. -- Best Regards.....John Kelly www.the-kellys.org ---- God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. |

One of the things MM2 does during startup is check each of the source files
in the collection bins. And each user has a different collection database. So differences in opening times with different users is normal, at least for that reason.
