At home we are connected via cable which appears to be blocking the X10 web-based software. We also use a router with firewall at home. I am considering upgrading to XP Pro to use the Remote Desktop feature. We will need to be able to call the laptop, potentially reboot, start the application, and view the desktop where the video images appear from our home computer. I'd also like to be able to access from work where we use Windows 2000 but behind a very tight firewall (large organization, IT will not grant exceptions!). Is XP Pro/Remote Desktop the right way to accomplish this? I am not an IT professional!!! Thanks for any input/assistance.

PCAnyWhere - bloated and it costs money.
The VNC Line - a little sluggish on lower powered PCs (Hosts), but well
worth the price! (Free.)

Although - I would HIGHLY suggest UltraVNC over RealVNC.
