Hi,
I am running a Windows XP VPN server on my home computer. When I try to connect to my home computer from work using the VPN Clinet (on XP), the connection is fine, but the internet dies. When I disconnect the VPN client the internets comes live again. Is this a known problem, or is this a limitation? Are there any alternatives? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Prem. |

On the properties of the VPN connection you need to uncheck "Use Default
gateway on remote network". See 317025 You Cannot Connect to the Internet After You Connect to a VPN Server http://support.microsoft.com/?id=317025 -- Thanks, Marc Reynolds Microsoft Technical Support This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Why is "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network" still the default setting?
It seems that this is a very common problem with vpn connections. Its a security risk to the private network you connect to via VPN when you uncheck the "Use Default
gateway on remote network" setting, that's why... It opens a big hole in their network because you have dual access to both the public internet and the private network at the same time... -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us... Ahh, makes sense. Maybe in the future microsoft can make it more accessible
to users that want to change it and put a notice on it that changing it is a risk. It is kind of buried in the settings.
