Johnathan, a longish question for you...
My daughter is not able to completely uninstall the beta, and therefore can not install any of the earlier versions either. There is a note that SP2 makes changes that prevent you from uninstalling MSN v7.2 in this knowledge base article (its a long article..faster if you search the string "msn") http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;886264 I also read in another thread your advice which applies to an earlier version <quote> Greetings Joshua, You can completely remove Windows Messenger (4.7) but if you do, you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, and Application Sharing from working. However, if you don't use this functionality that would be disabled by removing Messenger, you can simply remove it by closing down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like): RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove Then click OK. Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to, http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7 ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay <end quote> Can you modify it to nuke the Beta ? I not... I also found the following suggestion on another website: <quote> For a perfect clean install of MSN Messenger 7 BETA Follow these steps 1) Click Start > Run 2) Type msiexec /unreg and press enter and wait until it appears to have finished. 3) Go back to Start > Run 4) Type msiexec /regserver and press enter. 5) Uninstall MSN Messenger 6) Click Here http://download.microsoft.com/downl...84ff2/setup.exe 7) install it! 8) download another thing on this link (if you want to use the handwriting feature) : http://download.microsoft.com/downl...B886179_ENU.exe 9) install it! 10) Restart PC . THANK You Microsoft® Beta Testing Team <end quote> I couldn't find this posted anywhere on the MS support site, so being suspicious, would like a second opinion on this as well. Doug P |
