Default Audio issues in MSN Messenger 6.2

Hi all,

I've read other posts regarding audio/video problems with MSN Messenger and
tried the suggestions; however, I have yet to be successful.

I am running on Windows XP SP2, using an Intel PC Camera, have a Linksys
router, and have Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security 2004 installed. I
am able to send files and use the webcam without difficulties, but am unable
to get the audio working.

Using AOL's IM, I can use audio without problems, so it seems like there is
some setting in Messenger that is not allowing the audio. In Messenger, I
have run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard to ensure my microphone and speakers
were working.

Can anyone help me figure out my audio problem?

TIA,
Pamela

If AOL IM is like Yahoo Messenger, then it uses a relay server for audio.
MSN Messenger uses a different approach, a direct connection, which
uses UPnP if you have a router. Did you try enabling UPnP in your router
setup if you have a router? (under password, or administration or advanced)

Did you disable all your firewalls in order to test your connection?
You can use webcam and skype www.skype.com as a workaround.

I have the same problem. A very similar setup to the OP. UPnP is
enabled on the routers on both sides. Tries every suggestion I've seen
on Microsoft. Why is this so difficult to sort out?

I have a 3com OfficeConnect router/modem (firewall enabled) XP pro
(firewall enabled). Everything but audio works :-(
