I am receiving a message that my MSN Messenger is signed
in to another computer. I only have one computer. I just started to experience this problem today (9-23-04). I have deleted (unistalled) messenger because I'm so frustrated with it. What has happened that I cannot correct this problem? Please help, I'm about to put a .38 slug through the CPU. Thanx. |

This problem often occurs when you are running MSN
Messenger AND Windows Messenger at the same time. Before you start MSN Messenger, make sure that Windows Messenger is turned off. Do this by going into the Task Manager, and shutting down the process MSMSG, if it is active. Then, run MSN Messenger again. >-----Original Message----- >I am receiving a message that my MSN Messenger is signed >in to another computer. I only have one computer. Greetings Dan,
There's two main circumstances that can cause this to happen. The first is you've logged in and saved your password somewhere else, in which case you'll simply need to change your password here: https://memberservices.passport.net...RV_ChangePW.srf Secondly, assuming you're using Windows XP, Windows Messenger (the built-in Messenger client in Windows XP) may be automatically logging you on. To stop it, open Windows Messenger (click Start, then Run, type "msmsgs" and click OK), click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this Program when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version). Also, do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay. Hi,
You can only call MSN if you're a paid MSN Subscriber. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay.
