Whenever I try to delete a contact Windows Messenger signs me out and a
status message "<insert contact name here> cannot be deleted". Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way to get around it? Many thanks |

Greetings Steevo,
Are you utilizing any sort of router? ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay. I have the same problem! It's very frustrating. Everywhere
I look it's "by design". I thought it was the router, but even after plugging my laptop directly into the ADSL line and without any firewall it still wouldn't let me delete my contacts. >-----Original Message----- >"Jonathan Kay [MVP]" <msnewsreplies@jonathankay.com> wrote in message >news:uCSlm5aoEHA.1576@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... >Greetings Steevo, > >Are you utilizing any sort of router? >____________________________________________ >Jonathan Kay >Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger >Associate Expert >http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ >Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com >All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay. >You *must* contact me for redistribution rights. > > >Nope, just got a 56k modem connection. > > >. > |

Hi,
Disconnecting while removing a contact is not "By Design". If you're using MSN Messenger you might try the following (this doesn't apply to Windows Messenger), firstly shut down Messenger (right-click its icon in the notification area and click Exit), then click Start, then Run, then type: %appdata%\microsoft and click OK. Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete. After all this, restart Messenger and see if the problem has been corrected. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay. Would reinstalling help or is it service glitch not a software problem? Many thanks |

Hi Steevo,
Yeah, I was about to suggest that you remove the contact cache within Windows Messenger (forgot to add that to my original post), the repair probably fixed this on its own for you. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay.
