Default all messaging services are crashing after connecting

After a recent update to Windows XP, all messaging
services (yahoo, AOL instant messenger, Microsoft Instant
Messenger) crashes after connecting. I am also
experiencing a difficulty in retrieving my email with
intermittent error messages. Does anyone have any clues
as to what I can do to correct this?

Greetings Todd,

Since there seems to be problems all over the place, as a quick fix, you may want to simply
go back to before you installed the update. To do so, simply click Start, then Help &
Support, then 'Undo changes to my computer using System Restore' and then restore back to a
point before you installed the update.

After the restore is completed, check to make sure everything is still working, then quit all
applications and try installing the latest updates from WindowsUpdate again. If you
encounter the same problems, or there are no restore points available, you'll have to be more
specific about what's exactly occurring (error messages you're receiving and so on).
