I would like to force Messenger 6.2 to ask for a passward
before signing in. However, unchecking "Allow automatic sign in when connected to internet" in Tools\Options\General does nothing to alter 6.2's behavior. Also, I have unchecked all the other Sign In boxes in the same window. And in Privacy window have checked the "Always ask me for password -" box. After all this, clicking an Sign In in the main Messenger window results in automatic sign in without asking for a password. A related question; I have removed and reinstalled Messenger, and the program always remembers my user info from the previous installation, even tho I deleted it from the Program Files folder. Doing a search of the C drive brought up no other files named Messenger. Does anyone know the Temp files or registry entries that should be deleted after uninstalling the program so the user info is lost to a new installation of Messenger? Thanks in advance |

Greetings Ripley,
To remove this, click the Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select the Windows XP account name you're currently logged under, and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Ripley" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:11c1f01c44235$57564cf0$a301280a@phx.gbl... >I would like to force Messenger 6.2 to ask for a passward > before signing in. > > However, unchecking "Allow automatic sign in when > connected to internet" in Tools\Options\General does > nothing to alter 6.2's behavior. Thanks Jonathen - that, indeed, did solve my problem. I
would never have thought to deal with a Messenger problem via User Accounts in the CP.
