part of it may be your connection speed.... where I live cable is allot
faster than any of the DSL connections. Local DSL here is a measly 512Kb while cable is 3.0 Gb. Guess which will
give you the necessary speed to do what you want? It is probably because the DSL provider has supplied you with a NAT modem.

Well, then I do not understand this statement in your post: "I changed to
DSL and since then I am not able to" Joel "Jerry" <NoSpamChiefZeke@MSN.com> wrote in message news:%23dtNEedQEHA.3476@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > No they didn't - I'm running cable. > > "Joel Estes" <joel@nowhere.com> wrote in message > news:OCyu4NYQEHA.904@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > > It is probably because the DSL provider has supplied you with a NAT modem. > > > > Joel > > > > "Jerry" <NoSpamChiefZeke@MSN.com> wrote in message > > news:uh2YXwUQEHA.3748@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > > > Local DSL here is a measly 512Kb while cable is 3.0 Gb. That's not my statement - that's the original poster asking the question.

You're wrong about that. 3.0 Gbs means 3 *Gigabits* per second. The best
cable does is 3 *Megabits* per second (3Mbs). Also, that is *download* speed only; upload speed is a "measly" 256Kbs (kilobytes per second). Upload speed is just as important for video conferencing as download speed. DSL comes in to "flavors" - ADSL or Asynchronous DSL - with download speeds up to 1.5Mbs and upload speeds up to 384Kbs and SDSL or Synchronous DSL - meaning upload and download speeds are the same and are up to 1.5Mbps. SDSL would work *much* better than cable for video conferencing *if* both parties had it and at the highest speed available. It is much more likely that the original poster's problem is caused by a firewall or other port blocking either by his ISP (DSL provider) or some setting of his DSL modem. Well pardon me, but I thought that was who was asking for a solution and
that was who I was addressing the answer.
