A granddaughter used our computer and started using
Messenger. We had never used it and don't want to. Now we get these annoying msgs from her friends and from the system - always popping up on the screen. How can we get Messenger out of the system entirely or shut it off so we see nothing of it? |

Hi,
Your grand daughter must have saved her Passport.Net password on your machine. To get rid of that entry go to your Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts. Then click on your user account and then on the top left corner there'll be an option called Manage my network passwords. Click on that and then you'll see a list of stored usernames and passwords. Select your grand daughter's accounts and any other accounts you might not want and then click on the remove button. Then click on Close. Now if you want to remove Windows Messenger Go to the below website for the steps. To Prevent Windows Messenger from Running on a Windows XP-Based Computer http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...Product=WinMsgr When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar anymore However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from Windows XP can be found at this website made by Jonathan Kay. http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7 Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN Messenger if you're using that. -- Gary Tsang Microsoft MVP - Windows XP Shell/User http://www.microsoft.com/mvp "Shirley" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:10def01c440ef$e9db47c0$a101280a@phx.gbl... >A granddaughter used our computer and started using > Messenger. How can we get >Messenger out of the system entirely or shut it off so we >see nothing of it? > > Windows Messenger Is A Very Annoying Program Indeed. It is complex to remove Windows Messenger (Chat Program) From Windows XP because it is actually embedded in XP but there is an easy work around as follows: 1 - Open Windows Messenger 2 - Go to "Tools/Options/Privacy" and block all in "My Allow List"(Left Column) by moving them to to "My Block List" (Right Column) (Just highlight the name and click on "Block".) 3) Move "All Other Users" to "My Block List" the same way. This then means then that only people that you allow by placing them in your "My Allow List" can contact you on Windows Messenger |
