Well i'm about to throw my tower out of the Window. I am
a computer technician and utterly hate msn+windows messenger. Nothing but problems. Anyway, a couple days ago windows messenger (4.7) did not load in the system tray on bootup. I didnt think much of it, and restarted to see if it would load. Still the same thing, and when I go to manually start it, the hourglass appears and then nothing at all happens. I downloaded MSN messenger 6.1 to see if that would work. It installed fine, and actually gives me the login screen. As soon as I log into anyone's account it loads the contact list for a second and then minimizes itself and closes itself. It doesnt matter the account I sign into, it just closes itself down. I have uninstalled/reinstalled messenger 4.7 and 6.1 numerous times with no avail. I have done a windows repair to refresh my system files, and still nothing. The only thing that I know will fix it is a wipe and reload, and that is out of the question at this point. I am an experienced computer tech, and have never had this much frustration with a peice of software. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out. I have seen a couple other people posting the same problem elsewhere, but no one has responded with a specific fix that does anything. |

Windows messenger WILL load in winxp as long as I have no internet connection. If I unplug the cable coming in from my router, then messenger will actually load. As soon as I plug it back in, windows messenger quits itself. I hope this helps you help me! Aaron |

After much turmoil, I decided to reset my router.. Sure enough, messenger loads and no longer quits itself.. All this hassle for a simple fix!! I hope this helps other people who have had similar circumstances!! Aaron |
