Message Delay

Ever since I loaded MSN Messenger on my new computer
there is a delay in my conversations. Everything I type
sits down in the typing area for 3-5 seconds. This gets
very frustrating in trying to carry on a conversation
with someone, they are typing 3 messages to my one.

Could there be something running in the background that
is slowing this down? I have tried uninstalling it and
reinstalling with no luck. I even tested out windows
messenger with the same results.
