Take a look at Doug Knox's Website at this link for detailed instructions on
how to disable your Windows Messenger. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger.htm When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar anymore However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from Windows XP can be found at this website made by Jonathan Kay. http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7 Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN Messenger if you're using that. -- Gary Tsang -- Gary Tsang "andre" <apc_nuke@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:473a01c3760f$deb69300$a401280a@phx.gbl... > how do i disable windows messenger? it's more comfy to > use msn messenger. |

Greetings Andre,
You can remove Windows Messenger 4.7, but if you do, you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger from working (or loading without problems). You can just disable Windows Messenger 4.7, by opening it up, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this program when Windows starts'. This won't stop it from being loaded by some other application though. As well, you can disable it further by going to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components on the left, uncheck Windows Messenger in the components list and click Next >. Note: this is only available if you've installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 -- if you haven't, visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This won't remove Windows Messenger, but it will let it stay out of your way, and allow MSN Messenger 6 to work properly. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "andre" <apc_nuke@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:473a01c3760f$deb69300$a401280a@phx.gbl... > how do i disable windows messenger? it's more comfy to > use msn messenger. |

the add/remove window components without having any problem with msn messenger? is it ok if i "never" add it again (the windows messenger)? i won't have any problem with my computer if i remove it, right? >-----Original Message----- >Greetings Andre, > >You can remove Windows Messenger 4.7, but if you do, you will be preventing Remote >Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger >from working (or loading without problems). Hi Andre,
Correct. Actually unchecking Windows Messenger in the Add/Remove components doesn't really "remove" Windows Messenger, it just hides it. You shouldn't have any "problems" by using this method. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "andre" <apc_nuke@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:508701c3768a$be17efb0$a601280a@phx.gbl... > so you mean i just have to remove windows messenger from > the add/remove window components without having any > problem with msn messenger? is it ok if i "never" add it > again (the windows messenger)? i won't have any problem > with my computer if i remove it, right? > > > >-----Original Message----- > >Greetings Andre, > > > >You can remove Windows Messenger 4.7, but if you do, you > will be preventing Remote > >Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any > other applications that utilize Messenger > >from working (or loading without problems).
