Default MSN/Messenger Problems ... Help Please

As of Thursday I have been unable to sign into MSN/Messenger Services.
I have searched through all the entries here and tried everything that has
been posted by Johnathan Kay and yet
still to no avail.
I have even done complete re-install in windows from scratch and nothing.
I have totally removed the Norton Firewall ... nothing
All I get is that there is an unknown error.

When using the IE Browser I can access www.msn.com.uk but not www.msn.com,
or www.hotmail.com or any of the microsoft support pages. I have no probs
with the rest of the web.

Any Ideas gratefully received..

Roger

I been busy trying allsorts but still no go.

most sites that have got anything to do with
messenger.
I considerd using yahoo msgnr but when i clicked on the link to download the
software it wont let me.

I read in one of the news groups a guy had a similar problem and found he
had a trojan.

Backdoor.Beastdoor.201.b.

I cant even find it on the norton website

or mcafee.

Still trying gonna throw it out the window soon.

Greetings Roger,

Unusual, although I have a few theories (mainly related to NAV), I doubt this would be
repeatable.

Hi,

You can see that type of behavior if Messenger didn't have the appropriate rights in the
firewall initially (when you reinstall it, it'll redetect applications and set it properly).
