As of Thursday I have been unable to sign into MSN/Messenger Services.
I have searched through all the entries here and tried everything that has been posted by Johnathan Kay and yet still to no avail. I have even done complete re-install in windows from scratch and nothing. I have totally removed the Norton Firewall ... nothing All I get is that there is an unknown error. When using the IE Browser I can access www.msn.com.uk but not www.msn.com, or www.hotmail.com or any of the microsoft support pages. I have no probs with the rest of the web. Any Ideas gratefully received.. Roger |

Greetings Roger,
Unusual, although I have a few theories (mainly related to NAV), I doubt this would be repeatable. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Roger Goswell" <r.goswell@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:umCNM7vdDHA.1460@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > OK All here is a bit of an update (probably luck) bet hey im up and going > again. > > Steps Done........ > > Deinstalled NAV2003 & Firewall > Reinstalled NAV2004 (Still dead) > Uninstall NAV2004 > Put NAV2003/Firewall back on that came with the MB > Run all updates........ > Turn off System Restore > Disable Firewall > Restart System > Run scan (All shown clear) > Shock - All of a sudden it works again > > Don't know if this is of any help to anybody but I got there in the end > ??????????????????????? > ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? > ??????? > > MS = Myster & Suspense > > Roger > > > > "Roger Goswell" <r.goswell@ntlworld.com> wrote in message > news:O4Anu0ddDHA.1580@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > > As of Thursday I have been unable to sign into MSN/Messenger Services. > > I have searched through all the entries here and tried everything that has > > been posted by Johnathan Kay and yet > > still to no avail. > > I have even done complete re-install in windows from scratch and nothing. > > I have totally removed the Norton Firewall ... nothing > > All I get is that there is an unknown error. > > > > When using the IE Browser I can access www.msn.com.uk but not www.msn.com, > > or www.hotmail.com or any of the microsoft support pages. Hi,
You can see that type of behavior if Messenger didn't have the appropriate rights in the firewall initially (when you reinstall it, it'll redetect applications and set it properly). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "jawsquip" <jawsquipnospam@yahoo.com> wrote in message news HB7b.801$3z4.7350@newsfep4-glfd.server.ntli.net...> I uninstalled Norton Personal Firewall and I was able to sign in.
