Greetings Kasmin,
What you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger (which are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor can Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox. To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start, then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it, right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any real third-party applications should be effected by this. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Kasmin Jefferson" <Kasmin@comcast.net> wrote in message news:015101c352e3$6f657600$a501280a@phx.gbl... > Is there any way to eliminate the messenger service pop > ups? Yeh! And Microsoft can't control allowing pop-ups to be
disabled with IE 6! What a joke they could easily remove them by coming out with a new version of IE like the superior Mozilla, and Opera browsers have. But we will probably have to wait 2 more f...g years for that to happen!. Because MS "allows" companies to put pop-ups in the browser to annoy us IE users!. And hey what a better reason to upgrade to the next operating system coming out in 2005 to get the new IE with a built in pop-up remover!. Another great way to make a buck!. >-----Original Message----- >Greetings Kasmin, > >What you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger >(which are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor >can Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox. > >To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start, >then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Maybe you should do a little research before opening your mouth. This has nothing to do with pop-up
web pages in Internet Explorer. Andrew "John" <john@aol.com> wrote in message news:046301c35343$12e0c320$a601280a@phx.gbl... > Yeh! Jonathan --
Can you clarify your response. These popups are from the Messenger service "which spammers are exploiting". You mean that spammers exploit this "service", not Windows Messenger, right? Just curious--since both are MS-written software, I take it. I'm disabling it, whatever it is! Thanks. Hi RL,
Yes, this is the 'Messenger Service' -- not Windows Messenger. This particular 'Messenger Service' has been in existence since Windows NT (as such, is in both Windows 2000 and XP as well) and it's sole purpose just to send informative messages to users over local networks. It's only this past year that it's actually started to be exploited. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com <raymondlyons@msn.com> wrote in message news:01d401c353c9$f3d880d0$a301280a@phx.gbl... > Jonathan -- > > Can you clarify your response.
