so..Microsoft puts a program on your computer (when you get windows
xp) that allows others to spam you without telling you anything about it? Does this "message service" or whatever have a legit purpose? |

Hi Chris,
Actually this service has existed since Windows NT (what Windows 2000 and XP are based on), it's only been in the past 10 months or so, that it's been exploited. The purpose of the service is to notify users on a network about problems (ex. a server being turned off) -- however, since the Internet is just one large network, this can be exploited on the public Internet (as it is today). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "chris" <psychic_wsus@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:5a6c15f7.0307241115.14c612eb@posting.google.com... > so..Microsoft puts a program on your computer (when you get windows > xp) that allows others to spam you without telling you anything about > it?
