Are you able to hear your brother when either of you
initiates the voice chat? Does the chat session ends automatically after a few seconds? Yes and both or No and Yes - It may be a firewall or NAT issue. Make sure your brother does not have a firewall enabled or check with the ISP to see if they employ NAT on their network. If he has a firewall, try configuring the firewall to allow the ports required for MSN (there somewhere on MS's website). Yes and No - Get your brother to run the Audio Tuning Wizard and confirm that the speakers re working. Maybe a good idea to also re-unstall MSN 6 and re-install it with the lastest (final) version. This may help. Also try running Windows Update to apply all recent updates/patches. I hope this helps! Yes, I can hear him no matter who starts the conversation.
The chat does not automatically end after a few seconds. It keeps active until one of us ends the conversation. My brother does NOT use a firewall. We are both using different ISP's. But, we have both used our respective ISP's for months without any problems. If I use my wife's laptop, I can easily voice chat with my brother. But when I switch to the new desktop running XP, the problem starts. I have re-installed MSN 6 about five times now with no luck. I have also been using Windows Messenger 4.7 with the same result. This worked for me and several friends on window$ XP: (note that the one
that cannot be heard is the one with the problem) a) if connecting thru a LAN adapter, open connection properties and uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler. b) if voice starts but cuts out after a short period of time OR if connecting thru dialup, (it won't let you uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler)... set the QoS RSVP service to 'disabled' and reboot. You can also try un-installing the QoS Packet Scheduler
and re-installing it. (Should be OK enabled) Pez >-----Original Message----- >This worked for me and several friends on window$ XP: (note that the one >that cannot be heard is the one with the problem) > >a) if connecting thru a LAN adapter, open connection properties and uncheck >QoS Packet Scheduler. > >b) if voice starts but cuts out after a short period of time OR if >connecting thru dialup, (it won't let you uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler)... >set the QoS RSVP service to 'disabled' and reboot. > >"Keith" <hightower@copmail.com> wrote in message >news:065e01c35273$abb66580$a501280a@phx.gbl... >> Yes, I can hear him no matter who starts the conversation. >> >> The chat does not automatically end after a few seconds. >> It keeps active until one of us ends the conversation. >> >> My brother does NOT use a firewall. >> >> We are both using different ISP's. Thank you all. Disabling the QoS Packet Scheduler worked
and fixed my problem.
