Messengers

Does anyone have any idea why in the world MS has 2
messengers, Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger. This has
done nothing but cause problems as you can see by the
number of posts confusing the two systems. Are there
plans to keep things as they are with 2 Messengers or
will they merge the two into one Messenger? Thanks
