Hello group and thanks for all that reply.
I have a no name brand pc that I purchased with Windows 2000 and upgraded the operatiing system XP pro. Now I want to do a totally new install of XP. My problem is that I can't get the machine to boot off the XP Pro CD to do the install ( I have the boot device set to the CD-ROM). Is there a way to create a boot floppy form the XP Pro CD? I have tried to use other boot floppies but when I run the setup program on the XP Pro CD I get an error that it cant run in DOS mode. Can any one come up with a work around or suggestion? Thanks Fred |

Hi
The following link will show you how to boot your PC with a set of 6 floppies when you can't boot from an XP CD: "Windows XP Professional Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...B7-4FED408EA73F -- Will Denny MS-MVP - Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups "Fred" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:e06mUFbwEHA.1984@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > Hello group and thanks for all that reply. > > I have a no name brand pc that I purchased with Windows 2000 and upgraded > the operatiing system XP pro. i tried that, and it acts like the cd-rom isn't detected. it shows as
installed iin bios, yet nothing...the old pc i got used to have linux on it, and so far ive used the win98 bootdisk to reformat the hdd, and i have bios set to boot from cd-rom, then floppy, then hdd. it never tries the cd-rom, and if there's no floppy in, it goes to a blank screen w/ just a flashing cursor in the uppermost left corner. it used to do this grub prompt before then i did fixmbr from the recovery console part in the 6 floppy boot method... ive reset cmos, and still the cdrom shows installed and enabled yet it doesnt do anything but read the disk when its inserted. |
