I am trying to install windows XP to replace my windows ME
that has been a mess since the day of purchase. I have closed all active applications; deleted programs and anything else that I can think of to install XP. The problem that I am having is that I am getting a stop message that XP couldn't install due to some virus scan that my computer was apparently performing. I have no idea how or where to stop this from happening. I want to get rid of this windows ME because it has been a pain for approximately three years. |

Please ensure that your BIOS is not configured to have
Virus detection/protection. When XP writes to the MBR, the BIOS may interpret that as a potential risk, and deny the installation the ability to write to the MBR. >-----Original Message----- >I am trying to install windows XP to replace my windows ME >that has been a mess since the day of purchase.
