Default OEM Clean Install Error

I'm building a new P4 3.0 computer and bought an XP Pro
SP2 OEM License and CD. During setup, I keep getting a
Fatal Error that states:

"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from
continuing. One of the components that Windows needes to
continue Setup could not be installed. Incorrect
function. Press OK to view the Setup log file."

The Setup log file says:

SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "E:\I386
\ASMS\60\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON\CONTROLS\CONTROLS.MAN" on
line 5.

Error: Installation Failed: E:\I386\ASMS. Error message:
Incorrect Function

Fatal Error

One of the components that Windows needes to continue
setup could not e installed. Incorrect Function

Since this is a clean install on new hardware with a
licensed OEM disk, this shouldn't be happening! Anyone
have any suggestions what I can do to get around this? I
don't have a previous version of the OS or a boot
disk...just the copy of XP I bought with the new hardware.

Default Re: OEM Clean Install Error

Examine the Windows XP CD and make sure it is absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean it. Make sure you only
use the original Windows XP Pro installation CD with the holographic design
and not a burned copy.
