I have WinXP Home, SP2. I'm trying to upgrade to Pro.
When I insert the Pro CD, I get the error message "The version of Windows on your computer is newer than the one on the CD". I rolled back to pre-SP2 with SysRestore, but get the same error. How do I get the upgrade to work? Thanks for any help. |

Hi
If you want to upgrade frpm XP Home SP2 to XP Pro SP2, without first reverting to the previous version, you will to create a slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 CD. You will need to download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...splaylang=enand then follow the directions in the following article:http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?ac...cle=49Otherwise you will have to install whichever version is on the XP Pro CD andthen upgrade to SP2 afterwards.--Will DennyMVP - Windows Shell/UserPlease reply to the News Groups"Alan" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in messagenews:11e301c4a8b1$51c2dfa0$a501280a@phx.gbl...>I have WinXP Home, SP2. You should not have used System Restore to roll back
your SP2 installation. You should have uninstalled SP2 using the "Add or Remove Programs" applet in the Control Panel. If SP2 is no longer shown in the "Add or Remove Programs" applet, you can do one of the following: Perform a "Repair Install" of XP Home before upgrading to Windows XP Pro. How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm or Create a "slipstreamed version" of Windows XP Pro w/SP2 and then upgrade your existing Windows XP Home installation. Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming (integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze: Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?ac...&showarticle=49 Information on AutoStreamer 1.0 http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.p...&st=0entry245 Windows XP Service Pack 2 - Direct Download http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...ct=windowsxpsp2 Note: In the Add or Remove Programs applet, you must place a check next to "Show Updates" at the top of the window in order to uninstall SP2. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Be Smart!
