Default XP Installed to d:\ drive not c:\ why?

I installed XP last night to my computer and I have 2 hard drives (c:\ and
d:\). Apparently it installed things to my d:\ drive and it is much, much
smaller. My d:\ drive is 2.50 gigs and my c:\ drive is 10 gigs. Now the d:\
drive is almost full and I'm being asked to delete stuff. Why did it install
to d:\ and what can I do about it?

Also, when I install new software and things, it defaults to installing on
d:\ drive but I change that to c:\. Why is d:\ the default?

Please help. I'm very confused.

Because you did not pay attention during the install procedure.
Safe what you can off the D drive
reinstall XP onto the C drive....this time pay attention.
then from within your new XP format the old XP out of existance
