I have downloaded SP2 but cannot install it as it keeps
telling me I have insufficient disc space. I only have 1.0gb left on this machine.XP plus SP1 appear to have gobbled up huge amounts of space. I understand I am supposed to have 1.8gb to install tho SP2 is only 300mg Is there any way I can still install? Thanks Dominic |

With the uninstall directory, restore point and temp folders ect.. Express install saves some space but not much. You can remove the previous hot fix unistall folders to increase free space. I pushed though some low disk space warnings and made it though successfully. Good Luck. TonyS |

As Tony says +
If you have any particularly large folders that contain only data, you could consider compressing the folders by right click, properties, Compress this folder.... - it takes time - this changes slightly after SP2 is installed. I would de-compress the data after the installation, or possibly zip some large folders and replacing them afterwards. Avoid zipping any software folders. Compression is safe, but you have to have an NTFS formated drive to be able to use this. You can gain 50-75% on some folders by doing this, so you are looking for a large folder... The uninstall directories are in the Windows folder and are usually hidden (see View Options in My Computer). You may free up a few hundred MB by deleting them prior to installation. You may also want to empty your recycler, review the size of your internet cache (in Internet Explorer, Tools, Options, first tab click Delete Files then consider amending downwards long term the amount of space allocated if it is large in Settings), check that the Windows\Temp folder is empty or otherwise run the Disc Cleanup Wizard.
