Hi i got the following error when booting my laptop.
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM It does not even let me login to SAFE mode. I have updated to SP2 a couple of days back. From the articles i tried to repair the installation using the XP SP1 CD from Compaq. it detects all my hardware and then fails with the following error - "There is syntax error with the .SIF file that setup uses." I just cannot get beyond this. PLEASE HELP!!! |

I have tried logging with the option to restore to last
known good configuration. That did not work either. When i try to repair windows using the setup CD, it recognizes the hardware and before showing the setup screen where i can select R to repair, it crashes with the error syntax error in .SIF file. >-----Original Message----- >Dear sir >I have read ur problem now please have u tried logging >option last good known configuration where windows really >worked have u use that option please let me know u have >to repair your windows as your windows have problem in >boot ini files loading > >are u able to repair the windows by booting directly from >cd and trying option with repair or not >if u are able to repair please update me after reapiring >the windows whether u are able to log in safe mode or not > >regards >microsoft uk >navendukumar > > >>-----Original Message----- >>Hi i got the following error when booting my laptop. >>Windows XP could not start because the following file is >>missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM >> >>It does not even let me login to SAFE mode.
