Default Copying programs to laptop

I have an ethernet cable and want to copy my desktop
programs to my laptop. Both run XP Home. Is this a
difficult procedure?

Simply "copying" programs from one computer to another won't do
you very much good, I'm afraid. You'll need to use each application's
installation disks to install the programs on the new computer, in
order to properly create the hundreds of necessary registry entries
and to place the dozens of proper essential systems files into the
correct Windows folders.

Most Windows programs can't easily be copied...you most likely will
need to install them from media o the second computer.

To transfer the profile settings you can use USMT (User State
Migration Tool)

Version 2.0 of USMT is included in the VALUEADD\MSFT\USMT of the XP
CD.

Version 2.5 (recommended) can be downloaded as part of the BDD 1.0
Solution framework (or be found on the Windows Server 2003 CD). the
USMT 2.5 binaries are in the deploy.zip file of the BDD 1.0
download...

BDD 1.0 download link
