On August 21st I purchased a new notebook that came with
OS Windows XP Home Edition. Today I bought the Windows XP Pro Upgrade (I need this for school) and it won't let me upgrade because of the SP2 that came already installed on my computer. It is saying that what I have on my computer is newer than the Windows XP Pro Upgrade and that it is not compatible. What should I do? I do NOT want to replace the OS, I want to upgrade and the Microsoft XP Pro Upgrade website AND box said that I would be able to perform this, along with the company I bought them from. Is there anything out on this yet? |

Uhh, take it back where you purchased it along with the new XP pro CD and have the retailer install it.

Wanda,
An alternative to the other suggestion is to wait a few weeks and buy the WinXP Pro Upgrade that has SP2 already in it. That would allow you to do the upgrade over WinXP Home SP2. -- Regards, Len Segal, MCP Microsoft - MVP -------------- My reply address is intentionally wrong to reduce SPAM Email. Borg,
If it came pre-installed, it is unlikely that SP2 can be stripped out. OEMs got basically a "new OS" (WinXP SP2) from MS and thus they probably did not install WinXP and then apply SP2 over it (which would allow someone to remove SP2). -- Regards, Len Segal, MCP Microsoft - MVP -------------- My reply address is intentionally wrong to reduce SPAM Email. Ah yes, at least one other person has experienced the
same problem as I have just inherited. I'm on extended hold with Microsoft Tech Support for this issue. I sure don't want to reformat my hard drive, lose all my important files etc. I will re-post to this as soon as they give a workaround. >-----Original Message----- >On August 21st I purchased a new notebook that came with >OS Windows XP Home Edition.
