Upgrade from Windows ME

Hello everyone. I recently upgraded to XP Pro form windows
ME, and found that I had a lot of problems with various
hardware and software. Thinking I had done something
wrong, from the desktop, using my install disk, I tried to
re-install XP Pro. Half way thru the installation I get a
Fatal Error Message. The error log says it cannot find
I386/asms. Upon clicking "OK", my computer reboots, goes
back to the Windows Install screen, and attempts to
continue the installing, but the same error message
appears. It has rebooted now over adozen times. How can I
cancel the install? I tried booting from the cd but to no
avail. Any help is much appreciated!
